The Architectural Study page in the House section of
the site provided an overview of the vernacular architectural features of Monks
Chambers. This section looks at how these features might have changed over time.
We know from old records that Monks Chambers was, at some time in its past, divided into
four separate cottages. We also know that it then became two cottages before finally
becoming a single house sometime in the 1900s. We also know that many of the existing
doorways are not in their original locations and that there used to be another
chimney and possibly two sets of stairs in different places. This page aims to show evidence
of the changes that appear to have been made.
