Monks Chambers was purchased by Chris Turner and Lynn Martin in October 2001. Over the years the house has been subject to much change from its original state. Many of these changes have been subtle and sympathetic, some have been large and drastic and others have been totally out of keeping with the property. Our aim is to restore the building back to its full glory, while at the same time accepting that many of the changes made are part of the history of the property and should not be reversed or corrected.

Please have a good look around the site. There is lots of information about the house. However, there is also a wealth of general information on the materials and building techniques used to construct similar buildings. We are also building sections documenting the history of Thatcham and, in particular, the history of Church Lane.
