The Garden
Forward to 'Snug Patio'
Up until about 40 years ago, Monks Chambers had a large garden combined with the 'Little Meadow',
which reached down to the church. Over the years the 'Little Meadow' has been sold off for new
housing development. However, there still remains a good sized garden attached to the property.
Just as well that we like gardening then!

The garden looking down from the house
The plot of land that Monks Chambers occupies is approximatly 45m long by 23m wide. This gives an
approvimate size of 1/6th of a acre. Part of the plot is taken up with the
house and some more is used by the
Coach House. The rest of the land is garden.

When we moved in the garden was a bit overgrown, but had not been severely neglected. We have
cleared some of the weeds and made a few modifications. Now we are starting to plant the garden
up and deal with the multitude of weeds! The vegetables are well underway and we are looking
forward to a bounty of potatoes, carrots, beans, peas and raspberries.
Lynn has just been on a garden design course, so she has some great ideas. The first thing
we have done is to create a basic plan of the garden. Lynn is then going to develop
the plan to include planting information, additional landscaping etc. The first draft plan
is shown below. Each area of the garden is outlined in red. Click in one of the areas
to open a separate window showing the details and photos of this area.
