Building Conservation
I have always had an interest in old buildings. In 2001 I was fortunate enough to become the owner of a 16th Century, Grade II Listed, timber framed cottage called Monks Chambers. I have since been undertaking sympathetic repair of this building using traditional materials and methods. I am also a trustee of the Thatcham (Old Bluecoat School) Charity which is aiming to repair and bring into community use the Old Bluecoat School, a small 12th Century roadside chapel in Thatcham.

In this section of the site I will be sharing the information that I have learnt while working with these old buildings, attending courses and undertaking my own repairs. I’m not in any way a professional, just a dedicated home owner and lover of old buildings who wants to ensure that these buildings are treated in the most sympathetic way possible.
I am also a member of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) and work closely with English Heritage on the OBS project.
